Here is a classic example of mainstream media misrepresentation of the facts.

But if one reads the report below, nowhere is there a denial from any government source, unlike the “leader” which alleges denial. This author sticks with Jerusalem committeeman Nir Barkat’s assessment of Livni’s lack of a denial regarding Jerusalem talks with Abbas and project it on to the Der Spiegal report. In essence, as this author sees it, Jerusalem Post is warning Olmert that if he verifies the Der Spiegal report as correct by making such a declaration, that it will be the final nail in the political coffin. Repeated threats to leave the coalition become redundant and laughable when it becomes obvious that the party making threats is not serious. Further, the threats become empty and disdainful and maybe Olmert has the right to show a smirking countenance when the threats are repeatedly posed but not acted upon.

Having read the news report below, this author placed a call to friends, formerly of Shirat Hayam, who are among the 7 families now living in the community of Maskiot. They and the other families have been there for a month, are happy and hope that the government will not move against them. MB

Ten families from the destroyed Gush Katif community of Shirat HaYam have moved to the community of Maskiot in the Jordan Valley, where there is a pre-army military academy. Last year, then-Defense Minister Amir Peretz announced the same day the American Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was visiting Israel that the government would build several new houses in Maskiot. read more
