Mofaz Likud Departure Farce Recalled
.

Commentary;
As Shaul Mofaz gears up to contest for the Prime Ministership, a job he is wholly unqualified for, but which he may just fall into by virtue of the Shas party’s undying love of “Almighty Cash,” Israel National News’ Hillel Fendel remembers Mofaz’s totally undignified and laughable departure from Likud within days before Sharon’s strokes and resultant incapcitation and vegetation, which proved out to be no blessing for him (Mofaz).
So too, this blog recalls here and here Mofaz’s dead-of-the-night jump to Kadima in December, 2005, even as he sent an appeal letter to Likud voters to support him in their primary while having one foot out of the Likud door. MB

Identity = The Will to Win
.

Commentary;
Jonathan Tobin’s piece on former Prisoner of Zion and Israeli cabinet minister Natan Sharansky carries an important lesson for Israelis, a lesson in identity — seen as synonymous with an overriding national unity which was once axiomatic to a vast majority Israelis and to world Jewry, which with the evolution of elitism, protexia, political graft and self-aggrandizement as national institutions in Israeli leadership and governance, needs to be relearned, reabsorbed and reapplied by the Jews.

With Shavu’ot always being during the week of Shabbos Parsha Naso, there are various common threads between Shabbos Parsha Naso and Chag HaShavu’ot. There is the thread of national unity projected by the Kohanim as expressed in the Birchat Kohanim, the thread of diversity and unique expression within the 12 repetitions of the same offering brought by the Sh’vatim at the inauguration of the Mishkan and the thread regarding the importance of caring for the Ger Tzeddik.

‘Other Guy’s Sovereignty’ vs Right of National Defense
.

There was a time, during modern-day Israel’s first 40 years, when national defense was first and foremost priority. There were the pre-emptive attacks of the Six Day War, Sharon’s Suez crossing of the Yom Kippur War, there was the IAF bombing raid on the Iraqi nuclear reactor.
The opinion article below penned by Shlomo Slonim, the James G. McDonald Professor Emeritus at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, poses a classic example of how, in the name of distorted Western morality, the sanctity of an aggressor nation’s sovereignty has come to override and place as subserviant the national defense of the aggrieved nation.
