Legal Expert: Mofaz and Ezra Show Contempt for Knesset Committee

An expert in constitutional and administrative law from the University of Haifa, Emanuel Gross, said that Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz and Internal Security Minister Gidon Ezra have acted in contempt of the Knesset.
Gross said the ministers’ refusal to allow soldiers and police officers to testify before the Knesset committee investigating police violence at Amona was illegal and “in contempt of Israel’s democratic framework.”
Gross explained that while Israeli law enables ministers to preclude subordinates from testifying before a Knesset committee, there are limits and restrictions to using that privilege. He said it was improper for a minister to use his authority irresponsibly.
