Two recent blog posts by Barak of IRIS are particularly insightful.
One of the posts relates the absurdity of what has become Israeli’s revolving door penal code for terrorists who injure, maim and kill Jews or those who conspire with terrorists.
The newest crop of arrested terrorists were rounded up during operations in Shechem just before Yom Kippur, thus foiling a planned Yom Kippur terror bombing in Tel Aviv.
As a result of an arrest raid in Shechem on Thursday night, the plot was uncovered during interrogation of the Head of Hamas in Shechem;
Hamas is under orders to perpetrate a large terrorist attack in an Israeli city to undermine the peace summit scheduled for November, senior defense officials said Saturday, hours after a Yom Kippur suicide attack was thwarted by an arrest and the capture of an explosives belt in Tel Aviv.
Security officials said intelligence on the imminent attack was obtained by the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) from the head of Hamas in Nablus, Niad Shakrit, who was arrested late Thursday night by the IDF’s Duvdevan undercover unit, ending a four-day operation in the West Bank city.
During the operation last week, the army arrested 49 suspects, including a suicide bomber who was supposed to use the belt that was captured on Saturday in Tel Aviv.
The explosives belt was found in an apartment in south Tel Aviv’s Rehov Fijoto. Policemen and Shin Bet operatives who raided the apartment were attacked by a group of Palestinians who had illegally entered Israel in search of work. One of the policemen had his nose broken in the scuffles and was taken to hospital.
Border Police sappers destroyed the bomb belt in a controlled explosion on the sand dunes between Rishon Lezion and Holon.
As if the above account of what could have happened on Yom Kippur was not enough; there is this report about the re-arrest of an Islamic terror suspect who was pardoned by Israel last month;
IDF troops arrested on Sunday for the first time a Palestinian who had been pardoned last month by Israel. Faris Nazar, a 21-year-old member of the Tanzim terror group, was apprehended at his home in Kfar Kalil near Nablus.
IDF sources said that Nazar was pardoned by Israel under the fugitive arrangement last month under which 178 Palestinian terror suspects were temporarily “pardoned” by Israel and given the opportunity to return to a normal life in exchange for surrendering their weapons and ceasing their involvement in terror activity.
Central Command sources said Nazar was behind a number of recent bomb and shooting attacks against IDF troops in the Nablus area.
This author could safely bet that there are many other reports of similar re-arrests of freed Islamic terrorists which have not seen light of day. The re-arrest of this previously freed terrorist stands as testimony that the concept of freeing terrorists upon their signing of statements “disavowing terror” is bogus.
And another absurd precept of Israel’s protexia crowd concerning is that Fatah (the “PA(sic”) and Hamas are separate factions set against each other; Fatah – “moderate”, Hamas – radical. Barak’s post regarding talks with Abbas, Israel’s participation in November’s Washington conference and “projected unity” between the Hamas and Fatah reveals the utter bankruptcy of the Olmert regime’s big lies regarding Fatah – “moderate”, Hamas – radical.
