Haven’t we heard this from each succeeding US administration? Don’t we hear this from Republican presidential candidate John McCain and the two major Democratic candidates? But isn’t it true that once each succeeding administration came to power, from Carter right on forward to the waning days of the George W. Bush presidency, they each whistled a different tune from their campaign promises? And don’t successive Israeli governments, upon hearing each one of these repeated pledges not to pressure Israel, herald each pledge as a great step forward, as if never heard before? One who has a shekel for each time the statement “we will never pressure Israel over security” is uttered would be wealthy indeed.
Isn’t it time for intelligent Jews to stand up and say in actions and in words, as was the title to that James Bond movie; “Never Say Never Again?” That’s if there are numbers of Jews who have internalized the meaning and relevance of Purim to today. And once having uttered those words to the US, isn’t it time that we have a faith-based Jewish government which is self-reliant and which puts it’s faith in Hashem and it’s dependence in the hands of the IDF to carry out Hashem’s will, rather than craving the affection of, and dependency for security, upon the super-power or upon the nations? Cheney: U.S. Will Never Pressure Israel Over Security
Full Text;
At a press conference before his meeting with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert Saturday night, U.S. Vice President Richard Cheney said that the United States would “never pressure Israel to take risks regarding its security.” Although the U.S. would like to see a solution to the Israel-Arab conflict, such a solution could not come at a risk to Israel’s security.
“America’s commitment to Israel’s security is enduring and unshakable, as is Israel’s right to protect itself always against terrorism, rocket attacks and other attacks from forces dedicated to Israel’s destruction,” Cheney said.
