Sheetrit Accuses Government of Delaying Housing for Refugees

Full Text;

Minister of Housing and Construction Meir Sheetrit accused “top government officials” of delaying the construction of housing for refugees from Gush Katif. According to Sheetrit, he has made several agreements to begin building permanent homes for the refugees, only to have ministers and other top officials back out at the last moment.

Sheetrit also discussed construction in Judea and Samaria, where rapidly growing communities often struggle due to a lack of building permits. Sheetrit claimed that his ministry has created several plans for development in towns such as Ariel, Beitar, and Kiryat Arba. However, he said, Defense Minister Amir Peretz refused to approve the plans and construction never started.
