Olmert Warmly Received by OU, Ayalon Advises ’Wait on Aliyah’, by Ezra HaLevi (Israel National News)
Excerpts;
PM Ehud Olmert received a standing ovation at the Orthodox Union’s annual convention in Jerusalem, speaking after outgoing Ambassador Danny Ayalon discouraged those present from coming on Aliyah.
Ayalon, who just finished his term as Israel’s Ambassador to the US, stressed the need to unite behind Israel’s officials during these critical times. He also responded to Jewish Agency Chief Ze’ev Bielski’s call for American Jews to immigrate to Israel, saying: “I join Ze’ev’s call for Aliyah (Jewish immigration) from the states – but I have to say, you can wait a while.”
Ayalon told the crowd of observant Jews that the focus should be put on Aliyah from Europe instead.
Olmert himself began his speech by talking about Israel’s financial success….
He went on to declare that Israel unquestionably won the war against Hizbullah last summer and called upon Orthodox Jews to continue to stand united behind Israel.
Additional coverage of Olmert’s OU speech can be found here;
“Seeking to dispel frustration in Israel over the mixed results of the Lebanon war, the premier argued that Israel’s security situation was “a lot better today” than it was before Hizbullah’s unprovoked cross-border attack on July 12 that triggered this summer’s war. “
Commentary;
Two major comments on last night’s Ayalon/olmert display at the ou Convention;
1) It has to be seem obvious to anyone with eyes, ears and a brain that former Ambassador to the US Danny Ayalon was publically verbalizing Olmert Regime policy in responding to Jewish Agency Chief Ze’ev Bielski’s recent call for increased Aliyah by US Jews by discouraging Aliyah by American [Religious] Jews, by far the single largest component in increased Aliyah from the US.
It seems to this author to obvious that in deemphasizing US Aliyah and emphasizing Aliyah from Europe, the Olmert Regime seeks only to increase Aliyah by those sectors of the Jewish World which are in crisis, which look to Israel only as a haven and who can be coerced to accept the Kadima/Leftist line just in past precedence with sectors of the olim population at Israel’s modern-day inception in the late 40s and 50s.
2) Olmert continues his boastful spins of this summer’s conflict in Lebanon as a victory.
But, does this look or sound like victory? Does this, or does this, this or this? MB
