Jerusalem Braces for Gay Pride Events, by Hillel Fendel
Excerpts;
The gay pride parade in Jerusalem has been canceled, but that still leaves another 165 hours of gay activities in Israel.” So say opponents of the WorldPride events scheduled for Israel next week.
These events are to take place in various locations, including Hebrew Union College, the Kol Haneshamah Progressive Judaism Center, the Knesset, Jerusalem Cinematek in its Binyanei HaUmah location, Mishkenot Shaananim, Barbour Gallery in Nachlaot, Yellow Submarine in Talpiot.
Former Chief Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu has sent a letter to Jerusalem Mayor Uri Lupoliansky, asking him to work to cancel the week-long homosexual film festival scheduled for the Jerusalem Convention Center, which is partly owned by the Jerusalem municipality.
Youth Day, which is billed as welcoming “youth between the ages of 15-25, including… those who are unsure,” will begin at the Knesset next Monday at 12 noon. The event’s promotional literature states, “After this day, it will be impossible to ignore us. Everyone will understand and remember for a long, long time that the proud [Hebrew gaieh] youth has what to be proud of…” The day will begin with the convening of the Knesset Children’s Rights Committee, headed by self-proclaimed social rights champion Labor MK Shelly Yechimovich, at which up to several dozen youths of the HLBT movement are expected to take part.
Arutz-7 spoke with Yechimovich’s spokesman, and submitted the following question: “One of the purposes of the day’s activities is to entice youth to consider a homosexual lifestyle. How can it be considered a child’s ‘right’ to be persuaded or enticed in this manner, with grave consequences that can affect the rest of his life?”
Four hours later, the reply came back: “MK Yechimovich is not interested in relating to this issue.”
“… They don’t realize that after it’s all over, it will leave much damage in its wake – youths who are confused, or worse, about their own sexuality. This is a problem that must be addressed, but on the whole, that is not happening.”
