Olmert said he hid his plan to visit Sderot because he didn’t want to give the Palestinian Authority a special reason to launch rockets against the city. Four Wounded as Kassam Rocket Strikes Sderot Home

Excerpts;

Four people were wounded on Sunday morning, 1 moderately and 3 lightly, when a Kassam rocket, launched from the northern Gaza Strip, landed in a house in Sderot.

The four were evacuated to Barzilai Hospital.

A second rocket landed in open territory in the city. No one was wounded and no damage was reported.

There is no connection between the current Gaza incursion and the disengagement from Gaza.

Last summer, the nation decided to leave Gaza. At that time, it is important to remember, the IDF was only in Gaza to protect Israeli citizens.

Today’s incursion into Gaza was necessitated by reality. We couldn’t fail to react after a soldier had been captured and Kassams had been fired at Ashkelon.

Likud Divided Over Palestinian State

Likud MK Dan Naveh is expected to face stiff opposition to his proposal for the Likud to endorse the formation of a Palestinian state when he convenes the leadership of the Likud’s ideological bureau on Sunday at the party’s Tel Aviv headquarters.

Naveh, who chairs the bureau, believes that the move is necessary to attract voters who left the Likud for Kadima in the last election and to rebuild the Likud as a center-right party. He hopes that even Likud MKs who left the party for Kadima would return if the proposal passes.
“The Likud has to face the reality whether we like it or not,” Naveh said. The proposal also includes a clause banning the Likud from merging with other parties on the Right. read more

11 Months Later, IDF Re-enters Former Jewish Towns in Gaza

The IDF’s Golani Brigade entered northern Gaza after 2 AM, and continues to advance. Some of the units have already reached their destinations, such as in El Atatra, just south of Dugit, from where Kassams were fired at Ashkelon, a crowded built up area. Over the past few days, the forces have penetrated only as deep as 600-1000 meters into Gaza, but they have now already gone as far as 5-6 kilometers.

Efforts Continue to Prevent Gay Pride Parade in Jerusalem

Sephardic Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar this week came out strongly against the International Gay Pride Parade, scheduled to take place in Jerusalem next month. Rabbi Amar joined a growing list of prominent religious leaders, Jewish, Catholic and Muslim, who came out against the parade.

Rabbi Amar stated the Torah prohibits homosexuality and in the past, “such people hid their life style,” lamenting the fact that today, “there is no shame”. Rabbi Amar called the planned event an “abomination,” stating it is an affront to “all decent people.” read more
