A Knesset committee has approved the speeding up of the process of passing National Religious Party Chairman Zevulun Orlev’s proposed bill, according to which, Knesset members who express support for terrorists are banned from running for Knesset in subsequent elections.
The government coalition supported the move to speed up the passing of the law. The law will be voted upon in its preliminary reading next week.
“Particularly during these days, when our soldiers are fighting against terrorists,” Orlev explained, “there are expressions of … MKs identifying, supporting and encouraging terrorist groups like Hamas and it is therefore urgent that the legal process be sped up.” On Monday, the Knesset defeated motions of no confidence brought by a number of Arab parties over Israel’s anti-terror campaign in the Gaza Strip.
