MK Litzman: UTJ Objects to Olmert’s Convergence Plan
Full Text;
In an interview with Arutz Sheva Radio today, Knesset Member Yaakov Litzman of United Torah Judaism said that his party objects to the Convergence Plan put forward by Ehud Olmert and Kadima. As for the UTJ’s membership in the Sharon administration, which carried out the unilateral withdrawal from Gaza and northern Samaria, Litzman says that it came about only after it was clear that the plan was to be carried out with or without their membership in the coalition. UTJ only joined the government in an attempt to reverse the effect the ultra-secularist Shinui party had on the internal affairs of the nation.
In coalition talks with Kadima, Litzman said, the UTJ is focusing on the socioeconomic agenda and the anchoring of the religious laws in legislation that will avoid the need to constantly fight for their implementation throughout the next administration. UTJ is also seeking the chairmanship of the Knesset Finance Committee, which Litzman currently holds, as well as a deputy ministerial position with no minister appointed to the senior post. The reason for the last demand is a UTJ principle that their representatives do not take part in cabinet decisions of the government, thus remaining in a sense exempt from collective ministerial responsibility.
Commentary;
MK Litzman, as the old American saying goes, “You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.”
This author holds that the statement, “UTJ’s membership in the Sharon administration … came about only after it was clear that the plan was to be carried out with or without their membership in the coalition.” MK Litzman, when you joined Sharon, it was anything but clear that the plan would be carried out, but UTJ enabled it! I think that we all know that the above statement is bogus and that UTJ joined Sharon for the money, only the money and nothing and no other Jews mattered.
And even if the statement is true, there is such a thing called principle. Avraham Aveinu didn’t take a poll before deciding to wreck Nimrod’s idols and Mordechai didn’t consult with anyone before not bowing down to Haman. The point is; a party professing to be the party of the “Gedolim” must act based on higher principle and for the good of ALL JEWS! MK Litzman, you and your party came up way too short. You should be ashamed of the Chillul Hashem which you committed.
And one more thing, you should further be ashamed of structuring your role so as to refrain from taking part in Cabinet decisions. Anything to take the money and run and shirk the responsibilities which come along with it. MB
