In interview to Newsweek set to be published Sunday, Acting PM says Israel will not wait ‘forever’ for Palestinians, may need to launch unilateral withdrawal plan from West Bank. We have to provide PA with territorial contiguity, he states.
Likud, Yisrael Beitenu Strategize Ahead of Coalition Talks
Excerpts;
The Kadima team, headed by Dr. Yoram Turbovitch, is to meet with the negotiating teams of the Labor party, Shas, Yisrael Beitenu and the Likud. The meetings are to take place at the Maccabiah Village in Ramat Gan.
The Likud party leadership is to hold a strategy session tomorrow morning, ahead of its 2:00pm meeting with the Kadima negotiators. The party will be deciding whether or not to consider entering a Kadima-led coalition, and, if so, under what conditions.
The chairman and founder of Yisrael Beitenu, Avigdor Liberman, meanwhile, stated that he will not rule out joining a Kadima government even if its platform includes a willingness to carry out further unilateral withdrawals from Judea and Samaria.
Speaking with Channel 2 TV, Liberman said, “We are in favor of establishing permanent borders for the State of Israel. If that principle will direct the diplomatic plans of Ehud Olmert, then we will be pleased and supportive. If it will be a withdrawal with no benefit, no compensation and no improvement in the security situation, then we will not be partners.” In any event, Liberman added, he will not agree to compromise over control of the Public Security Ministry.
Lieberman Doesn’t Rule Out Joining Gov’t that Evacuates Settlements
Excerpts;
Yisrael Beiteinu Chairman Avigdor Lieberman said Saturday that his party favors creating permanent borders for the state of Israel. He did not rule out joining the government, even if Prime Minister-elect Ehud Olmert includes a unilateral withdrawal as part of the guidelines for the coalition platform.
Speaking on Channel Two’s Meet the Press, Lieberman said that if he joins the coalition, he does not plan on relinquishing the Public Security portfolio.
“I belong to the pragmatic, not fanatic, right. We favor creating permanent borders for the state of Israel. If this matter is included in the guidelines for Prime Minister-elect Ehud Olmert’s diplomatic plan, we’ll support it. If it will be a pointless withdrawal, with nothing in return and with no improvement in the security situation, we will not be a part of it.”
According to Lieberman, the most pressing diplomatic matters include setting permanent borders for the country and adjusting the border according to the demographic reality.

Abbas: ‘Convergence’ Will Lead to War
Commentary;
The most telling quote here is from Avigdor Lieberman; “the most pressing diplomatic matters include setting permanent borders for the country and adjusting the border according to the demographic reality.”
Whose “demographic reality?” The bogus Arab demographics; the Holy Grail of Ehud Olmert which has been proven by a group of Israeli and American researchers to be false and overstated by at least one third? MB
