Attorney General Invalidates Agreement with Hevron Residents

Attorney General Menachem (Meni) Mazuz has invalidataed the agreement reached between the IDF and Jewish residents living in the vicinity of Hevron’s wholesale market. Under that agreement, Jewish residents agreed to temporarily leave their homes until receiving formal government approval to return.

Mazuz said that since IDF general Yair Golan, Commander of forces in Judea and Samaria, had no authority to sign the agreement, its status was null and void. Mazuz writes that the agreement was signed contrary to the wishes of the IDF Chief-of-Staff and the political echelon.

Mazuz concludes, therefore, that the government has no legal obligation to return Jewish residents to their homes in the Hevron market.
