“The conviction and sentencing of Omri Sharon<\/em>, the ailing prime minister’s son and one of the most influential people in Israeli politics for the past three years, is likely to become a legal, political and cultural landmark in Israeli history.<\/em>“<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The felony for which Omri Sharon has been convicted, illegal campaign financing, along with charges of perjury and fraud to which he confessed previously in a plea bargain, should have rendered his 18-month jail sentence a foregone conclusion, especially since more than half of the sentence was suspended.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Yet the sentence has caught many by surprise, itself being a testament to the fact that political malfeasance in recent years has not become only common, but also tolerated, whether in the moral or practical sense.<\/em>“<\/strong> <\/p>\n

There is a definite thread through each of these news and editorial pieces which will be evident as they are read. Malfeasance or nonfeasance, insensitivity, selfishishness, self-interest, lack of any Jewish attribute of the nation’s leaders, and where this shortfall leads. Is this the kind of leadership which we seek for the immediate future of Israel? Is this the type of leadership which affords it’s constituency any feelings of security, sense of wellbeing, etc., either on a national level, or on a personal home level? Such leadership has seized carte blanche by way of it’s bureauracy, by way of it’s engrained control of every institution in Israel, to steal outright from it’s citizens at legalized gunpoint;<\/em><\/strong> of personal property<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, of physical health<\/em><\/strong><\/a> and wellbeing free from physical abuse,<\/em> of<\/strong> violation of sexual chastity<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, violation of one’s independent thought and more.<\/em> <\/strong> <\/p>\n
