“The Mekorot Water Company has stopped injecting chlorine gas at a facility near Ashkelon for fear that Palestinian-fired rockets will hit tanks holding the potentially deadly substance<\/strong>, a company official said yesterday.”<\/p>\n

“Instead, it has begun using liquid hypochlorite, which costs seven times as much as chlorine gas, to disinfect the water supply<\/strong>, said Menachem Nechama, director of Mekorot’s southern division.”<\/p>\n

“Palestinians in Gaza have launched rockets that landed near sensitive installations outside Ashkelon in recent weeks, including a power plant and fuel depot. No rockets have yet fallen near Mekorot’s facility yet, but it decided to use hypochlorite in any case<\/strong>, Nechama explained.”<\/p>\n
