{"id":1616,"date":"2006-08-23T18:54:07","date_gmt":"2006-08-23T16:54:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sefer-torah.com\/blog\/2006\/08\/23\/mean-meir-justice-minister\/"},"modified":"2006-08-23T18:57:32","modified_gmt":"2006-08-23T16:57:32","slug":"mean-meir-justice-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sefer-torah.com\/blog\/2006\/08\/23\/mean-meir-justice-minister\/","title":{"rendered":"Mean Meir &#8212; Justice Minister?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sefer-torah.com\/blog\/MeirSheetrit.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>   <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sefer-torah.com\/blog\/OlmertDapper.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jpost.com\/servlet\/Satellite?cid=1154525929235&#038;pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull\"><strong>PM Appoints Sheetrit Justice Minister <\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Commentary;<\/p>\n<p>The third posuk of<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/sefer-torah.com\/blog\/2006\/08\/22\/parsha-shoftim-5766-where-theres-no-just-judgement-theres-no-law-revisited\/\"><strong>our Parsha<\/strong><\/a> <strong>reads and emphasizes; &#8220;Tzedek, Tzedek tierdof&#8230;&#8221;  Righteousness, righteousness (also rendered Justice, Justice) you shall pursue that you may live and inherit the land which the Lord, your G&#8217;d gives you.&#8221; (Sefer Devarim, Perek 16, posuk 20)<\/p>\n<p>This posuk follows immediately after the opening of our Parsha;  &#8220;Judges and officers shall you appoint in all of your cities &#8212; which Hashem &#8230;gives you &#8212; for your tribes; and they shall judge the people with righteous judgement.  You shall not pervert judgement, you shall not respect persons, neither take a bribe, for a bribe binds the eyes of the wise, and perverts the words of the righteous.&#8221; (Sefer Devarim, Perek 16, p&#8217;sukim 18-19)<\/p>\n<p>Does Meir Sheetrit live up to the parsha&#8217;s mandate?  Just as with Haim Ramon and Tzippy Livni before them, the answer is a resounding NO!  MB<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>For context,<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/sefer-torah.com\/blog\/2006\/05\/18\/temporary-education-minister-meir-sheetrit-this-country-belongs-to-two-peoples\/\"><strong>click here<\/strong><\/a> <strong>and<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/sefer-torah.com\/blog\/2006\/02\/14\/kadima-party-full-of-bullies-example-meir-sheetrit\/\"><strong>here.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Full Text; <\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Prime Minister Ehud Olmert appointed Housing and Construction Minister Meir Sheetrit as interim justice minister on Wednesday morning. <\/p>\n<p>Sheetrit will replace Haim Ramon for a three-month period while Ramon fights charges of sexual harassment. Olmert has said he hoped Ramon would be exonerated by then. <\/p>\n<p>Sheetrit said he accepted the role in order to help preserve stability in the country. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I place great importance on helping the prime minister preserve governmental stability &#8211; especially during these times &#8211; and therefore I was recruited to help where I was needed.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>The prime minister also said he appointed Sheetrit because he has served as justice minister in the past and was successful in the position. <\/p>\n<p>Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, also a former justice minister, was also considered for the position.
