Sources in the Palestinian Authority over the weekend said that Israel was weighing the possibility of freeing 600 terrorists, in addition to the 254 released last week. The sources said the Prime Minister Ehud Olmert promised PA chief Mahmoud Abbas that the terrorists would be freed if the PA returns to serious negotiations on Israeli withdrawals from Judea and Samaria over the next several weeks. The issue will be discussed at the upcoming meeting between Olmert and Abbas.
The sources also said that Olmert intends to proposed a novel solution to the “Palestinian right of return,” which the Arabs have consistently demanded and would entail Israel absorbing millions of the descendants of Arabs who fled the state when it was established in 1948. Olmert intends to propose building a new Arab city between Ramallah and Jericho for those who wish to move here, and high levels of compensation for those who turn down the idea.
